Janet Gasparotto

Biography

Underlying Janet's work is a passion for exploring the liminal spaces where humanity and spirituality, the material and the immaterial and the conscious and unconscious meet. Her work fluctuates between abstract and semi-representational as she considers these mysteries. Themes of longing, pain, desire, hope, and transcendence, often permeate her work.

Janet holds a bachelor of interior design from the University of Manitoba as well as a bachelor of Fine Art from the Ontario College of Art and Design. She graduated from both programs with honours. Her extensive experience as a designer informs her approach of reducing form and content to its essence, and an engagement with concept and materiality.

While based in Toronto with her family, she has worked as a commercial interior designer with an international, multi-disciplinary design firm and maintains an artistic practice. She has served on the board of various human service organizations as well as taught at Ryerson University.
